Self-Preservation in the Political Thunderdome
Once again, my chosen candidate for president of the United States failed to win this year’s election. This pattern repeats more frequently than I’d like to admit, with my primary picks rarely making it to the general election. Most of the time, this does not leave me devastated. However, with a sense of déjà vu reminiscent of 2016, I am aggrieved by America’s choice to once again elevate Donald J. Trump to a position of significant power. Risking potential backlash but refusing to fear retribution, I’ll state it plainly: I find him fundamentally incompetent and viscerally repulsive.
The worst part about returning Trump to a position of national prominence is having to listen to his voice and the nonsense that comes out of his mouth. Each utterance triggers an involuntary wave of disgust so intense that I manically search for the mute button in a desperate attempt to silence the incoming assault on my senses.
[Looking into my crystal ball, I concede that his voice will ultimately be the least problematic aspect of the presidency of #47.]
